All or Nothing

I had a revelation the other day - something that just came out of the blue and hit me over the head. Even though I know that this has come to me before, it came to me in a different way, in a way that was pounded into me and made me rethink a lot of things.

I was listening to my favourite singer, British tenor Russell Watson. There is a beautiful song he wrote called All or Nothing, and part of the lyrics are:

Senza te non poso fare
Senza te non vulnio stare

Loosely translated it means, "Without you I do not rest, without you I am nothing." The refrain is in English and says "All or nothing," over and over again. It is a secular song, but the words struck me as something that I need to do. I need to give my all over to God. Everything. Every bit of me and everything that I do is His. And the fact is I need to give Him everything, or I give Him nothing. There is no such thing as giving Him a part of you. How can you when He is so great it would be impossible to even compare what you could give to what He has already given?

Last night I was reading my Bible and was going through random Psalms when I came upon Psalm 62. How fitting to come across the Psalm that reassures us that we do find rest in God when we put all of our trust in Him!

1 My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from him.

2 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

3 How long will you assault a man?
Would all of you throw him down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?

4 They fully intend to topple him
from his lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.
Selah

5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from him.

6 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Selah

9 Lowborn men are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie;
if weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.

10 Do not trust in extortion
or take pride in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.

11 One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,

12 and that you, O Lord, are loving.
Surely you will reward each person
according to what he has done.

Without Him, I am nothing. With Him, I have given Him my everything, my life, my all. I can find peace in knowing that my God, whom I trust with my whole being, will always be there for me, no matter what life throws at me and no matter what trials I may be going through! What a great love and hope I have in His grace and mercy!
